What I learned
What I learned about texture as an element of art is that texture can improve your artwork by adding detail to objects making them more eye appealing. Texture allows artists to be creative when coming up with ideas to create a more depth piece of artwork. Through this exercise, I learned that texture has the power to create feelings and connect the artwork to the viewer depending on the texture that is being used.
Finding Focus
The Focus I used for number one is the man watching the oceanfront view. Since I wanted the focus to be on the man, I used subtle textures and used more “pop” and brighter textures of the view. I decided to change the texture of the windows so that the windows had a shine to them. I also didn’t add a lot of bright colors to the negative space since I wanted the main focus to be the man.
6 Techniques-The One I Chose
One of the techniques that I used for exercise 3 is adding art elements such as texture. This technique appealed more to me because I connect the texture to feelings. In the example that was provided, it felts as if I can touch that actual image because of the brush strokes that were used. I decided to use brush strokes for the texture because I wanted to have that same feel to my artwork. I think that the visual is successful because of how the brush strokes in the background complement the brush strokes on top. One thing I would’ve changed is using colors that contrast each other so that the texture will stand out more.
